FRIGG ─ Okay, okay, Dante and Vergil have attempted to kill each other many times over the years; and yes, Dante has actually succeeded in killing his brother more than once. HOWEVER, one of the most important things to him is family. Dante spent majority of his life trying to get revenge against the demons that tore his family apart. He got into demon hunting in hopes that one day he'd find the one responsible for killing his mother, he tried to catch and stop Vergil from falling into Hell, and he was happy to drive head first in Hell (alongside his brother Vergil) knowing full well they probably wouldn't be coming back. He loves his family, both blood and found, and will do a lot for them.

ODIN ─ So while Dante isn't a complete idiot, he is the more impulsive of the Sparda twins. In his younger years Dante spent 90% of his time being impulsive. He started hunting demons in the hope he'd one day find the one who killed his mother, knowing absolutely nothing about the said demon. It was something of a self-destructive cycle considering that younger Dante had no problem with dying as long as he took the demons down with him. While in his later years Dante did get a little wiser and smarter (he figured out Nero's parentage with little more than a gut feeling and how Yamato reacted to him), he is still very much prone to making rash and impulsive decisions. It is something of a Sparda family trait, they are all idiots.

Dante will choose Odin as going with God of Knowledge and Wisdom would be a good bet to, you know, get some good old information on what he's gotten himself into.
Personality:
"It's not about loss... strength is a choice. Fighting like hell to protect what's important. You threw away everything you ever had... no wonder you have no true power!"

Dante is an asshole with a heart of gold, a man who has gone through more shit than he can count and still somehow made out the other side better for it. Not that any of it shows.

At his core Dante is almost the epitome of the devil may care attitude. He is flippant, sarcastic, and massive show off even when there is no one around to watch him. He's the sort of person who looks at a demon about ten times his size and instead of being serious, or ever afraid, he spends a few minutes judging the demon's state of dress─ or lack there of. He is quite casual in life threatening situations, making off handed jokes when someone crashes through his window with a motorbike, or shot in the head by a someone whose life he just saved. This naturally makes Dante come off as laid-back asshole, someone who is never without a witty taunt or come back, that never takes anything seriously.

But there is more to Dante to witty one liners. He's a man with a lot more layers than that and reasons for the way that he is. A lot of that stems from the trauma he experienced as a child, the day Mundus sent demons after the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda's family; a human woman named Eva and her two boys, Dante and Vergil. That fateful night Eva hid Dante away in a closet before going back into their now burning home to find his brother, only she never managed to find and instead Dante got to watch his mother die at the hands of demons. This became a driving force in a lot of his young life, the very reason he started hunting demons in the first place. Eventually he got his revenge, taking down the very demon that was responsible for running his childhood and killing his mother, gaining something found family in it's place.

Notably friends and family is one of the most important things to Dante. He loved his mother, his father, and most importantly his brother Vergil. They haven't seen eye to eye in years but there is nobody nearly as important to him as his twin. Even after being stabbed and their many battles, Dante still tried to stop Vergil from falling into the demon world, even mourning his brother's loss after the portal between the worlds closed. It was during the events of Temen-ni-gru that he would bond with a fellow demon hunter, Lady, and later a demon made in his mother's image, Trish, the two of them became as close as family─ the only family Dante believed to have since Vergil fell into hell, only to reappear as a servant of Mundus forcing Dante to ultimately kill him.

This all changed, however, when Dante went to Fortuna and encountered Nero. They didn't get off on the right foot, fought of number of times, but towards the end of things Dante came to the realization of who Nero truly was. That the boy was none other than Vergil's son and his nephew. Family. Dante brought him into the fold, gifting Nero a sign for his van, even going so far as to express open concern for him and warning against fighting Urizen again. Sure, Dante may not have used to best words (have gone so far as to call Nero "dead weight") but it came from a good place. His concern comes up again later on when he relieves to Nero the true nature of the relationship between himself and Vergil, trying to spare Nero the pain of killing his own father. He might not always be the best at vocalizing it, but he really does care.

Aside from family Dante loves a good fight. Yet despite any trash talk that is likely to occur, he is somewhat respectful to his opponents. He likes a fair fight, restraining himself when fighting an opponent clearly not on his level (his first fight with Nero, for instance). On the flip side he is also quick to unleash his full power when faced with an opponent who is closer to his level. This is no more obvious than his conflicts with Vergil. He readily throws everything he has at him knowing full well that Vergil will do the very same. Even in battle Dante is an unapologetic show off, making sure to be as flashy as possible much to the chagrin of his opponents.

This does sometimes lead to problems, however, as often flashy fights lead Dante into having bills for property damage or a motorcycle he borrowed from a friend without asking. Dante often seems to be in a considerable amount to debt, not hesitating to complain about it at any given moment. However it is a problem of his own making. While his style of combat often leaves behind large bills, he also has a habit of taking on jobs without any thought of monetary value─ granted that they have something to do with demon hunting. While he might be a jerk with heart of gold, helping people and not taking money from poorer clients, he is still a jerk and will flat out refuse to take on a job, regardless of how much it might pay, because he damn well can. Or if he doesn't like the sound of it.

So in the end, yeah, Dante can be a bit of a dick. He's been through his fair share in life and somehow managed to come out the other side a half-decent person. Sure, he loves pizza and strawberry sundaes a bit too much, he can be obnoxious at times and he isn't the cleanest person alive─ But he has a good heart.
