[messaging dante the next day hadn't been his initial plan but hey, here they are. klaus had immediately wanted to make sure both dante and gaige were okay after getting rhys settled down, though most things don't go according to plan on klaus's end and he has gotten to where he's just accepted that at this point.]
hey man it's klaus i just wanted to say thanks for helping diffuse that situation yesterday you didn't really need to but we both know it was good you did [and he's got a damn good feeling dante had been there for gaige.]
also wanted to make sure you were okay and see if you needed anything like healing or a stiff drink maybe something stronger? i got that too just whatever might repay the fact you helped because god knows you deserve it
[ Fact of the matter is Dante wasn't expecting any time of message from any of them any time soon, so to say he's surprised when Klaus' message appears is putting it lightly. ]
hey it's no problem she wouldn't have been that pissed if she didn't actually give a shit about rhys and there is a difference between killing some bandit and killing someone you actually care about it's not a burden someone her age should bear
[ Shit, he really needs a stiff drink. ]
just a bit bruised nothing a hot bath can't fix but fuck yeah a stiff drink and whatever else you've got hidden away sounds amazing klaus you're company would be payment enough everything else is just a fun extra bonus
yeah that's what i was thinking too but idk man she seemed REALLY fucking mad and i'm pretty sure she would've killed him without regret even which is almost a little more terrifying if they're ‘friends’ as it were but no nobody should have to have that kinda weight on their shoulders
[good thing he's just re-upped his supply of vodka, then.]
then you should do that if you haven't already also: eat bananas!! the vitamin k in them will help i've also got aloe vera gel you could rub on the bruises for extra relief [maybe klaus was doing everything possible to ignore the fact dante's just said he enjoys his company, but if he doesn't acknowledge it, what kind of asshole does that make him?]
didn't know you were such a flatterer dante vodka's the stiffest i got but there are leftover edibles if you're alright with those
yeah she might just need some time to blow off steam and stop thinking with her murder brain with any luck they can sort it out without beating anyone into paste
[ He hopes. ]
and miss the opportunity to hang with one of my favorite people in asgard? perish the thought besides i'm used to pain bruises like this have nothing on a sword through the chest [ Dante don't just say shit like that so casually. ]
more than likely feels like if i hold my breath for that i'll turn blue tho so maybe?? a mediator wouldn't be the worst idea
[hoping is one thing, being prepared for more fallout is another.]
oh my god dante please [s t o p, you'll make him blush— except not really. (or so he'd think?)] i already like you ok? don't gotta butter me up so much me too but that doesn't mean it still won't hurt can't say i know what THAT kinda pain feels like what the actual fucking hell man???
charming the pants right offa me lemme tell ya fair warning: they're goddamn strong like might put you on your ass for longer than expected strong
Why would I? Not only is it in the past, it isn't my story to tell. I hadn't really thought about catching you up with all the shit that happened in your absence considering all the shit we've been going through here.
[ That came out a little snappier than intended. Dante exhales again, dragging a hand over his face. ]
[It's two boxes that Dante will find sitting at his doorstep one morning, name clearly for the man in red with no tag to say where it's from. One is a rather clunky box that weighs a lot more than what it looks like at first glance, while the second one is smaller and thinner. Opening the larger one will have Dante probably laughing, because it's not a subtle gift at all- it's a toolbox, and inside it are basic tools for fixing anything mechanical. A certain nephew may be reminding his uncle that he wants to hang with him sometime, even if Dante doesn't learn anything from Nero teaching him how to fix a car. It's the memories that he wants to make, okay? Those mean a lot more to him.
The smaller one, however- that one's the bigger deal. At first glance, it may not even look like much is in there at all, but if Dante chooses to undo the wrapping around it, he'll find that it's a small wooden box with Odinhaus' insignia and colors on the top. Inside the box is a bracelet- the charm on it an inconspicuous symbol of a tree within a circle, almost as if it's Yggdrasil. It looks relatively normal until Dante presses both sides of the charm, the tree flipping upwards to reveal two small portraits in their own circles. One has Nero, eyes bright and vivid against the dark wood of the charm; the other has Vergil, the rare gem of a hidden smile across his face. Pushing the two pictures down causes the charm to fold in upon itself and go back to normal, as if the two were never there in the first place.
At the bottom of the wooden box, Dante will find a note.
We're family now, remember that. We'll be here for you.
[ He doesn't know what sort of gift would be appropriate for his brother. Dante has far too many weapons in general, and he needs no other articles of clothing, with his apparent obsession with bright red leather. Vergil has considered children's math books to help with a skill he's so clearly lacking in — but that can be provided at any time. He remembers how much their mother enjoyed dressing up the house, the care she put into things. Despite how long it's been and all the things between then and now, he doesn't want to tarnish that memory.
So instead, he puts off approaching Odin for this so-called gift he's granting the Wanderers. He doesn't think he needs anything — until he's sitting on the couch and reading one day, and realizes what's missing.
Dante is the only one who doesn't get a package to open. Instead, one morning when Dante comes downstairs, he'll hear a record player going. Nero is the one who figured out how to get it working on a crank, since there is no electricity here — and that was a strange thing to ask.
But when Dante comes downstairs, it won't be Vergil's normal classical music that he enjoys. Instead, it'll be Dante's favorite record, something upbeat and a little loud. It's played quietly, but he should know it when he hears it.
Instead, when Dante goes downstairs, there is a rather conspicuous package wrapped in brown paper and twine sitting on the table apparently designated for eating. Vergil, on the other hand, is at his desk reading and very obviously not paying attention to it or his brother.
The package, should Dante choose to pick it up, is stiff but malleable; there is give to the contents, but not so much as to render them into putty.
[ That's suspicious, but not so much to stem his overwhelming curiosity. A curiosity that only grows as he descends from the second floor, to table and it's conspicuous looking package. ]
Any idea who dropped it off?
[ A pointless question not expecting an answer. It's obvious, though he uncertain how he feels about it, that Vergil's the source of the package. ]
